Olympus KeyMed Limited was formed in 1970 and now employs close to 1,000 people at its headquarters in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK.  In addition to its responsibilities as the parent company for Olympus Surgical & Industrial America Incorporated, based in Orangeburg, New York, KeyMed distributes and services the Olympus range of medical endoscopic equipment in the UK, Ireland, the Middle East and Africa, and develops and manufactures industrial and medical products to integrate with those from other Olympus manufacturing sites.

In addition to the responsibilities of KeyMed through Olympus Surgical and Industrial America, KeyMed markets, the Olympus range of industrial RVI equipment to all parts of the world except Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea, which are the responsibility of Olympus Corporation in Japan. 

There are also two further subsidiaries within the Olympus KeyMed Group – KeyMed Ireland Ltd, responsible for the sales and service of medical and industrial endoscopy systems in the Irish market, and Algram Ltd in Plymouth, UK where specialist high quality plastic mouldings are designed and manufactured for both UK and overseas customers.
